Martin Jol on last legs as Fulham head to Crystal Palace

Published:

Despite Fulham’s 1-0 win over Stoke in their last Premier League match, Martin Jol has only been usurped as favourite to be the next manager to leave by the bizarre goings on at Cardiff.

With Malky Mackay apparently now leaning towards staying at the Bluebirds, Jol’s price of 7/2 looks generous ahead of a trip to Crystal Palace.

A loss at Selhurst Park would surely lead to Jol’s exit, as it would leave the Cottagers with just seven points from eight games.

Although Palace have lost six out of seven league games this season, they have shown encouraging signs in their fight for survival when in front of their own fans.

A 3-1 win over Sunderland followed a narrow 1-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur, with Swansea the other side to collect three points.

Last year the Eagles had the third best home record in the Championship and Ian Holloway will be targeting matches against the likes of Fulham as central to their relegation battle.

Palace won 2-0 the last time the two sides squared off at Selhurst Park and the Eagles are 7/4 to beat Fulham this time around.

Fulham have lost to Newcastle and Chelsea already on the road this campaign and won just four away games last season.

They also struggled against newly-promoted teams, winning just one of six games against Reading, West Ham and Southampton.

There were 11 goals after the 75th minute in those six matches, and in each of Fulham’s last six league games this season, a pattern that can be backed at 21/20 to continue.

Late goals have been a feature of Palace’s recent games as well, with four after the 76th minute in their last five league matches.
