Ronaldo better bet than Messi to score in Barcelona v Real Madrid

Published:

For all the talk of expensive new arrivals in Spain over the summer, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi very much remain top dogs at Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively.

Their rivalry over which is the world’s best is a major part of the Clasico, and this time around Ronaldo is the man who should be backed to score at 1/1.

The Portuguese forward has notched on each of his past six visits to the Camp Nou, with eight goals in total during that run.

Ronaldo’s fine form at Barcelona has helped Madrid themselves to an impressive recent record against their rivals.

Los Merengues have won three, drawn three and lost just two of their past eight trips to the Camp Nou, and only lost one of six Clasicos last season anywhere.

Madrid are 3/1 to win the first meeting of the pair this term.

Ronaldo, like Messi, is never really out of form, but he travels to Barcelona in an especially prolific mood.

The 28-year-old has notched 15 for Madrid in 12 games so far this campaign, failing to find the net in just one of his last 10 outings.

Messi has bagged 12 in nine so far after missing a couple of games through injury. His record of 18 in 25 against Madrid cannot be ignored either, with the Argentine 4/7 to score anytime.

However, Messi has only scored three in the past five Clasicos at the Camp Nou, hardly a poor record but an inferior one to Ronaldo.

Of the new faces, Isco looks more likely to find the net than both Neymar and Gareth Bale, having bagged four in nine league games so far.

Playing on the left, Neymar has turned provider more frequently than scoring himself for Barcelona, with two goals and five assists in the league, while Bale is unlikely to start given the excellent form of Angel Di Maria.

Isco is 4/1 to score, with Neymar priced at 5/4 and Bale 3/1.
