The walls are closing in on Ian Holloway at Crystal Palace

A 4-1 thrashing at home to Fulham in the Premier League resulted in Selhurst Park crisis talks for under-pressure Crystal Palace manager Ian Holloway and the general consensus is that his time in the job could soon be at an end.

If the market is to be believed then the next Premier League manager to be collecting their belongings will be Holloway, now priced as short as 8/15 with Ladbrokes.

In the wake of the Eagles’ crushing defeat to Fulham, which contained a possible contender for goal of the season just to rub it in, Holloway was summoned to a meeting with chairman Steve Parish.

His absence from his media duties directly after the game naturally had those in the Sky Sports studio guessing that the axe was coming down.

However, a rather chastened Holloway did eventually emerge to fulfil his post-match commitments and was quick to play down the magnitude of his talks with Parish.

“We were having a meeting anyway, we always do when we have a warm-down. We will talk about some bits and pieces and learn from it. That is the meeting and that is what we always do,” said Holloway.

Interestingly, before the Fulham game Parish had told BBC Radio 5 Live that Holloway’s job was secure, despite the torrid start, stating that: “Ian is the right person for our club right now.”

Nevertheless, with the Eagles having collected just three points from eight games, it’s a tally which is certain to test the patience of even the most laid back of football club chairmen.

The fact that Holloway has brought in 16 new players this summer could be the issue that finally tips him over the Selhurst Park precipice, if results don’t pick up very soon. Next up…..Arsenal.
