Arsenal v Marseille: Patched-up visitors likely to fold easily

Published:

A win for Arsenal over Marseille will ensure another giant leap towards qualification for the knockout stages of the Champions League and with the French side depleted by injuries on their trip to the Emirates; they should be ripe for the picking.

There is literally no room for error in Group F, as Arsenal remain top only by virtue of their current head-to-head record with Napoli (also on nine points) with a trip to Italy on matchday six still to come.

The good news for Arsene Wenger’s side is that their French visitors are already eliminated and guaranteed last place in the so called ‘group of death’ following four games without picking up a point.

While 1/4 on the home win is not quite enough to get excited about, backing the Gunners to at least ‘get the job done’ is as good a place as any to start and great to chuck in any accumulator.

Despite recording wins against Ligue 1’s bottom-two sides in their last couple of fixtures, Marseille’s dismal showing in this competition had been fully mirrored by a run of three defeats and a draw before that.

Currently fourth in Ligue 1, Elie Baup will no doubt be concentrating his efforts on hanging onto the coattails of Monaco, five points ahead in third, rather than in a competition they can no longer gain anything from.

With Mathieu Valbuena and Dimtri Payet joining Ghana striker Andre Ayew on the injury list, creativity is likely to be in short supply for Marseille and everything points towards the Premier League leaders running out comfortable winners.

Arsenal to score 2/3 goals at 1/1 appeals, as does the home win to nil at 9/10, while the 5/2 on the coupled correct score of 2-0/3-0 stands out.

After featuring as a substitute in the win over Southampton, Theo Walcott is likely to be involved at some point and makes a tempting pick to score anytime at 6/5.
