Giroud gets odds boost and decent price to outscore Marseille

After six games for club and country without a goal, Olivier Giroud finally got back on the scoring wagon with a double in Arsenal’s 2-0 success over Southampton and he is now an enticing price to break the deadlock in the Champions League against Marseille.

Giroud has netted in nine separate games for Arsenal this season and has a healthy strike-rate of helping himself to the opener on five occasions.

He is certainly due to score the opening goal in a Champions League fixture too, as he is yet to achieve this feat this season, despite scoring in three of Arsenal’s six outings in the competition thus far.

Ladbrokes have given Giroud the price boost treatment ahead of Marseille’s visit to the Emirates, enhancing his price from 3/1 to 4/1 to score the first goal of the game.

His chances are surely boosted by the fact that Marseille are virtually guaranteed not to value this fixture as high priority, even though goalkeeper Steve Mandanda insists pride is still at stake and that his club are not simply turning up to fulfill fixture obligations.

The French club are already certain to finish bottom of Group F and so have little to play for in the Champions League and this fixture begins a period of eight games in just 26 days.

Therefore, there is a strong possibility that Elie Baup will rotate his squad, with exciting youngsters Mario Lemina and Gianelli Imbula among those likely to start.

With key attackers Dimitri Payet and Andre Ayew definitely out and Mathieu Valbuena and Andre-Pierre Gignac carrying injuries, it is not obvious where any Marseille goals at the Emirates will come from.

Giroud is 8/13 to score any time in the 90 minutes against Marseille, but those fancying this bet may be better taking the 2/1 that the Frenchman outscores the opposition on his own.
