Gaga hit will put Sam Bailey on the edge of X Factor glory

Published:

Sam Bailey will have a twinkle in her eye as she steps on to the X Factor stage this week.

The soon to be ex-prison officer will perform Lady Gaga hit Edge of Glory knowing full well that she will be on the cusp of winning the show as the 2/7 favourite.

X Factor insiders have revealed the playlist for the 2013 final and as well as the Gaga number, Bailey will also sing Jennifer Rush’s Power of Love, keeping to the tried and tested method of belting out ballads that has served her so well throughout the series.

Meanwhile, 4/1 second favourite Nicholas McDonald has opted for Robbie Williams’ Candy and Angel by Sarah McLachlan. The latter of these seems the ideal choice given the time of year but the upbeat nature of the Williams song could hit the wrong note with voters.

Rank outsider Luke Friend, now available at 12/1 to win the show outright, seems resigned to the fact that his hopes are dashed and seems intent on having fun in the final.

The 17-year-old will tackle We Are Young by FUN and then pander to wants of younger viewers with a rendition of One Direction’s What Makes You Beautiful.

Such is Bailey’s favouritism for the win that opposing her and backing anyone from the Boys category to win is priced at 5/2.

The song choices also give a clue to who, if anyone, will join the wannabes on stage in the live finale. Lady Gaga recently appeared on Alan Carr’s Chatty Man and having performed on the show before it’s not too far-fetched to imagine a duet with Bailey.

Likewise, Robbie Williams is no stranger to the show and could better his Olly Murs duet from the 2009 final with a McDonald sing-along.

And finally, with One Direction being previous contestants and still contracted to show boss Simon Cowell an appearance in the final could well be on the cards.
