Sunderland v Norwich: Black Cats to prosper from Canaries’ slump

Published:

Sunderland’s form has been less than inspiring of late but the Black Cats will be confident of picking up a vital win when Norwich visit the Stadium of Light.

The hosts may sit rock bottom of the Premier League with a paltry nine points but with the Canaries having won just one of their last five games on the road Sunderland are billed as favourites to win the match at 11/10.

The visitors can be backed at 12/5 and the draw is available at the same price but with only one of the last 10 meetings between the two ending all square bank on someone coming out on top.

One thing that that is almost certain though is a healthy showing of goals. Neither side has been in stunning form in front of goal this term but four of the last five meetings have produced more than two goals, making the 7/10 available on over 2.5 strikes in this match a tempting price.

If this goal scoring record is to be improved upon then Phil Bardsley is arguably the best value bet for the hosts.

The former Manchester United man has been among the goals this campaign with four strikes already and with two of those goals coming first in games and the other two coming last backing the 28-year-old to net again is another temptation.

Bardsley is 22/1 to open the scoring and the same price to close it and while he remains an outside bet he is definitely worth backing.

However, those looking for more certainty could be swayed by the 6/1 on offer for Norwich’s Gary Hooper to score the last goal of the game – something he has done three times already this season.

Somewhere in the middle of these two options though is the pick of the bunch in Leroy Fer.

The midfielder’s stats show that he takes his time to get going in games, with all three of his strikes this season coming at the end of games, and the 10/1 on offer for the Dutchman to round off proceedings this time is too good to ignore.
