Away day joy for top flight trio in our FA Cup acca

Published:

Backing Premier League teams to overcome the threat of lower league opposition may seem like a conservative bet but with returns of more than 8/1 we’ve found a tasty looking away day treble.

In what is a decidedly Welsh-themed accumulator Swansea and Cardiff can get a much needed confidence boost with Cup wins, while the new-look Hull front line will attempt to hit the ground running.

And with Ladbrokes’ Acca Insurance offer returning losing stakes if you miss out by one on a five-fold+ bet, why not add Liverpool and Everton for odds of 16/1?

Swansea to beat Birmingham @ evens

Birmingham took four points off Swansea last time they graced the same league and enjoyed a 3-1 victory over the Welsh side in the Capital One Cup earlier this term.

However, while this suggests the Blues will be confident of a home win, Michael Laudrup’s men simply cannot afford to lose.

Premier league sides often field weakened teams when facing sides from the lower leagues but with just one win in 10 games the Swans will need to use the trip to St Andrews to pick up some much needed form.

Fortunately for the Liberty Stadium outfit, Brum are also struggling of late, winning just one of their last 10 at home.

With Championship strugglers Yeovil’s recent 2-0 win highlighting the hosts’ frailties expect the top flight side to progress here.

Cardiff to beat Bolton @ 13/8

Bottom of the league and with just one win in seven games it is difficult to get behind the Bluebirds at present.

However, a trip to the Reebok comes at just the right time with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side also in need of a confidence boost.

While six-goal striker Jermaine Beckford remains a threat it is the Trotters’ defensive woes that will appeal to the visitors.

Dougie Freedman’s side shipped seven against Reading last time out and have now kept just one clean sheet in eight games.

Cardiff haven’t inspired of late but expect a return to winning ways as they face a side staring League One football in the face.

Hull to beat Southend at 8/11

While there is a risk that Steve Bruce will use a trip to Southend to blood some of his younger players the gulf in class should still tell here.

Southend are flying high in fifth in their division and have now gone unbeaten in seven matches in all competitions.

However, Bruce’s side have impressed of late and sit just outside the Premier League’s top 10 with the recent 6-0 mauling of Fulham fresh in the mind.

Should recently-added strikers Nikica Jelavic and Shane Long be given some game time, their desire to impress alone should be enough to carry the Tigers through.

Bruce’s men have lost just two of their last six FA Cup ties on the road, so expect Southend’s dream to end at Roots Hall.
