Five potential targets Man Utd scouted over the weekend

Published:

Manchester United boss David Moyes needs to pull a couple of transfer rabbits out of the hat this month for his side to stand any chance of making it into the Premier League top four by the end of the season at 21/10 odds.

Moyes was spotted in the crowd during Juventus’ 4-1 win at Cagliari, while first-team coach Phil Neville was out and about in Madrid to watch Rayo Vallecano beat Getafe, so we’ve rated the chances of their potential targets rocking up at Old Trafford.

Claudio Marchisio – Juventus

Marchisio may have only made it on to the pitch for the last 25 minutes of the Old Lady’s win, but Moyes will have liked what he saw as the midfielder bagged his side’s third with his only shot.

The emergence of former United youngster Paul Pogba has limited the 27-year-old to just 10 Serie A starts so far this term and he could be amenable to a January switch.

Potential transfer likelihood – 7/10

Davide Astori – Cagliari

Astori endured a difficult 90 minutes in front of Moyes, although the 6ft 3in defender dealt with every aerial ball that came his way.

The champions’ quintet of senior centre-halves have struggled for fitness and form this term and with Borussia Dortmund seemingly unwilling to sell Moyes’ top target Neven Subotic, the Scot may move for Astori this month.

Potential transfer likelihood – 8/10

Arturo Vidal – Juventus

The classy Chilean box-to-box midfielder would be welcomed with open arms by the Old Trafford faithful, but Juventus’ 30m+ valuation of Vidal makes an unprecedented mega-money January move by United hard to see.

Potential transfer likelihood – 3/10

Saul Niguez – Atletico Madrid (on loan at Rayo Vallecano)

Running the rule over the young midfielder simply known as Saul was thought to be the younger Neville brother’s main reason for travelling to Spain.

Arsenal and Chelsea have already been linked with the 19-year-old, who would be a cheaper option in the centre of the park than fellow Atleti fledgling and United target Koke.

Potential transfer likelihood – 7/10

Alex Galvez – Rayo Vallecano

Towering centre-half Galvez was linked with Dortmund over the summer and capped a solid display at Getafe, where he made more tackles than any other player on the pitch, with the assist for Alberto Bueno’s 29th-minute winner.

Potential transfer likelihood – 6/10
