Liverpool can still win Premier League – says Brendan Rodgers

Liverpool are odds on at 8/13 to finish in the top four of the Premier League this season after a fine start to the campaign but Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is not settling for a Champions League berth, claiming the Kop outfit can go all the way.

The Anfield residents trail leaders Arsenal by six points but Rodgers is adamant that his side are not there to just make up the numbers in the top four and believes he can lead the Reds to a first ever Premier League crown.

“With the games we have got to go and the confidence we have in the team, we just need that bit of luck with injuries and to be able to manage the team,” he said.

“It’s a long way to go, but you can see it’s an open Premier League so the team that can make the least amount of mistakes and continue to evolve can hopefully win out at the end.”

The comments come with Liverpool set to receive a timely boost to their chances with the return from injury of England striker Daniel Sturridge.

The 24-year-old started the season in blistering form in the absence of the suspended Luis Suarez and picked up where he left off in bagging his 12th goal of the campaign against Stoke last time out.

The former Chelsea and Manchester City man looks set  to make the starting XI for the weekend’s game against struggling Aston Villa, for which the Reds are priced as 2/9 favourites.

Sturridge is available at 5/2 to open the scoring against the Villans – something he has done four times for Liverpool already this season – and at 4/6 to net at any time during the game.

And with the striker out to cement a place in England World Cup squad and striker partner Luis Suarez scoring for fun Rodgers might just be the manager to end Liverpool’s 23-year wait for a league title.
