Man United to return with bid for Real’s Fabio Coentrao

Everton’s superb start to the season will have done little for David Moyes’ ego. His old club sit above his new one in the Premier League, with the Toffees having undoubtedly progressed since his departure, while Manchester United have struggled since his arrival.

The Reds poor start is sure to affect the transfer dealings at Old Trafford, with United no longer seemingly guaranteed Champions League football, a feat they are 13/8 to achieve.

His pursuit of Leighton Baines seems to have stalled thanks to the Merseyside club’s superb start and their North West rival’s unimpressive one.

The England left back is now thought to be reluctant to leave Goodison Park after a deal appeared to be on the horizon.

The rebuff from Baines has made Moyes rethink his strategy and he is expected to go back in for a player he was just minutes away from securing in the summer.

Fabio Coentrao would have been a Red Devils’ player had it not been for some paperwork issues on deadline day and he is thought to be the man that has been identified to challenge Partice Evra.

The Portuguese international has featured only twice all season for Real Madrid and has been told he is free to leave by Carlo Ancelotti.

The player himself is eager to depart the Spanish capital in order to play regular football ahead of the World Cup this summer.

The 25-year-old is four years Baines’ junior and comes with a host of Champions League and international experience on his side.

A fee of around £12m is thought to be enough to secure his services, a great deal less than any potential bid for the sought-after Everton man.

This move would also make way for the potential departure of Alex Buttner in this window, while also setting up the opportunity for the aforementioned Evra to move back to his native France in the summer.
