Martin Adams won’t be able to tackle the Silverback when giants collide

| 07.01.2014

Martin Adams looks set to see his indifferent run of form continue when he meets the ultra-consistent Tony O’Shea in the first round of the BDO World Darts Championship.

Adding Glen Durrant and James Wilson to your bet slip produces a treble that pays £29.02 from a £10 stake with our news team taking a look at the pick of the action on day four from the Lakeside.

Tony O’Shea to beat Martin Adams @ 8/11

Former three-time BDO World Champion Martin Adams will be dreading facing an opponent like Tony O’Shea at this early stage of the competition.

If Wolfie’s to avenge the quarter-final defeat he suffered in 2012, he’ll have to overcome an opponent who’s been in consistent form over the past year.

The Silverback, a beaten finalist in the last two editions of the BDO’s world tournament, impressed while reaching the quarter-finals of the crossover Grand Slam of Darts in 2013.

And the recent WDF World Cup semi-finalist can compound Adams’ woes after the latter was forced to play in a preliminary qualifier having slipped so far down the rankings.

A first round humbling could be in store for Adams, who exited the competition at the same stage last year.

Glen Durrant to beat Mike Day @ 1/5

Australian arrowsmith Mike Day has already performed miracles to make this maiden appearance in the last 32 of the World Championship.

A surprise 3-0 demolition of Sam Head to qualify for this stage raised eyebrows and last year’s Canterbury Open champion will be full of confidence as he bids to continue his magical journey.

But while this will also be Glen Durrant’s first shot at glory in Frimley Green, the Englishman stands out given his recent overall form on the BDO circuit.

The tournament’s tenth seed retained his England Classic title and landed the Northern Ireland Open in 2013 and the Middlesbrough-based thrower looks well set to progress here.

James Wilson to beat Christian Kist @ 2/5

Christian Kist’s shock World Darts victory in 2012 will have some onlookers dreaming of an upset against world number two James Wilson.

However, Jammie Dodger’s form in the last twelve months should dispel any doubts as to how strong his chances are of dispatching the Dutchman.

The recent Zuiderduin Masters winner has featured in a slew of other finals during that period, including the World Masters and British Open.

By contrast, Kist has failed to go past the last 32 in each of his previous four tournaments and looks easy to oppose given those performances.
