Seppi and Jankovic matches make Aussie Open day five punts

| 15.01.2014

The Australian Open heads into the second round on day five for those who haven’t succumbed to heat stroke and we’ve searched both the men’s and women’s singles draw for a potential money-spinning angle.

The hours of play may be a little unsociable for the British viewer, but that doesn’t mean punters should miss out on a profit, so here are two bets we’d recommend.

Jelena Jankovic v Ayumi Morita: Under 17.5 games @ 1/1

Japan’s Ayumi Morita, ranked 61 in the world, will have been hoping to avoid world number eight Jelena Jankovic at all costs.

Her head-to-head record with the Serbian reads 0-3 and although one of those was a walkover, Morita only pilfered six games across the other completed encounters, both on hard courts.

This has the makings of another one-sided contest as Jankovic brings top form to the Melbourne major too, having taken Victoria Azarenka to three sets in the preceding Brisbane International tournament semi final.

Jankovic’s passage to the third round should be swift against an inferior opponent.

Andreas Seppi to beat Donald Young @ 2/5

After letting a two-set lead slip against local favourite Lleyton Hewitt, world number 25 Andreas Seppi finally saw off the Australian in an epic contest 7-5 in the final set.

Although this will have taken a physical toll on the Italian, Seppi can take great confidence into this match with American Donald Young, knowing he has beaten him twice previously without dropping a set.

Furthermore, Young’s involvement in the second-round actually came courtesy of Robin Haase’s enforced retirement in round one, though in fairness to the American he was 2-1 up at the time.

Having defeated big-hitters Marin Cilic and Denis Istomin en-route to the fourth round in Melbourne last year, Seppi’s extra quality should see him safely through.
