Goals on the menu for PSG’s Coupe de la Ligue trip to Nantes
Published:PSG head to the Stade de la Beaujoire as favourites for victory, but given their relative defensive frailty on the road and Nantes’ solid home record, there could be goals at both ends in this Coupe de la Ligue clash.
Laurent Blanc’s men are on a run of impressive away form that has seen them lose just two of their last 18, with one of those defeats coming in a dead rubber against Benfica in the Champions League.
But PSG haven’t had things all their own way on the road, with the reigning Ligue 1 champions conceding in each of the last seven they have played away from the Parc des Princes.
Nantes may have gone three games without finding the net themselves but with the prospect of a place in the Coupe de la Ligue final up for grabs and with the home support behind them, the hosts should get on the scoresheet.
Nine wins from their last 15 fixtures at home suggests Les Canaris will be no pushovers, making the evens on both teams scoring one bet to back.
However while Michel Der Zakarian’s team should put up a fight, the wealth of options at the disposal of his opposite number suggests that PSG should still be too strong.
And if the Parisiens are to win away again then they should be backed to do so comfortably, with five of their last six victories on the road coming by a margin of two goals or more.
Much will depend on the team picked by Blanc, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic previously rested for cup duty.
But with that strategy backfiring during their Coupe de France loss to Montpellier, the Swede could be included and is 9/4 open the scoring as he did earlier in the season during a cup visit to Brest.
Failing that 3/1 shot Edinson Cavani could grab the first goal of the game, as he did in PSG’s 2-1 win over St Etienne in the previous round.
