Ladbrokes are industry best price on a Chelsea trophy double

| 20.02.2014

Jose Mourinho may remain coyer than a carp about his sides’ chances of winning any competition this season, but there is nothing fishy about Chelsea’s odds to achieve a Premier League and Champions League double.

The bookmakers currently deem Chelsea’s chances of securing a famous tandem triumph at home and abroad at a hefty 28/1.

Love-er-ly odds indeed you might say Jose me old mucker. As two separate bets, Chelsea are a far less profitable 8/5 to win the title, while a maiden Champions League win as manager of his beloved Blues currently repays at 11/1.

Punters scoffing at the thought of this golden double coming to fruition for Chelsea’s miniature ponies ought not to be too hasty either.

As much as he doth protest, Mourinho’s CV is awash with silverware from top to bottom, having secured domestic titles in no fewer than four of the continent’s top divisions.

Furthermore, that resume contains more than its fair share of multiple hoards in one season, including the very same double Chelsea are chasing now, when in charge of Porto and an even more impressive treble when presiding over Inter.

And although the trophy with the distinctive handles has thus far eluded him as Chelsea boss, he orchestrated a pair of league and cup doubles in his first Stamford Bridge stint.

But it’s not just Mourinho’s mastery from the dugout which adds sheen to their double chances, it’s the ones doing the business on the pitch – where the squad has the perfect blend of experience and youthful exuberance.

The majority of this Chelsea squad were present for their glorious Champions League tilt two seasons ago too, while Peter Cech, John Terry, Ashley Cole, Branislav Ivanovic, John Obi Mikel and Frank Lampard who are still in the dressing room, were all part of the 2009/10 title-winning side.
