Spurs line up Red Bull flyer to solve their left wing problem

Published:

Since Gareth Bale left for sunnier climes in Spain, Tottenham haven’t really found a player able to fill the rather large void he left.

Tim Sherwood even alluded to that fact in the aftermath of his side’s 3-2 win over Southampton, which saw the club’s odds to finish in the top four fall to 12/1.

However, the former Blackburn skipper must be crossing his fingers he’s still at the White Hart Lane helm next term as it’s rumoured he’s found the answer to all the Lilywhites’ problems.

Sadio Mane is a key cog in the Red Bull Salzburg wheel, scoring thirteen goals in the Austrian Bundesliga and another four times during a Europa League campaign that saw The Red Bulls reach the last 32.

Spurs face competition for the player’s signature though, with the Senegalese flyer catching the attention of fellow upper-echelon dwellers Chelsea and Manchester City as well as Newcastle.

It’s thought that the 21-year-old would prefer a move to north London, though, as he’s acutely aware that the Lilywhites would provide him with the best opportunity to play regularly.

Salzburg are open to negotiations too, with £10m supposedly the magic figure that will open the door to any potential move.

With three of the Premier League’s most cash-happy clubs in pursuit of the same man, it would be unwise for Salzburg to accept the first offer that comes their way, with a frenzied auction the ideal scenario for the dominant Austrian side.

The 15-cap international has been a revelation for Salzburg since joining from Metz in 2012, scoring 16 times in his debut league campaign before following up with this term’s impressive haul.

A player of noted pace, Mane has also scored four goals in the strip of his nation and has been the reason for two trips to the Red Bull Arena by Spurs’ head scout, Ian Broomfield.
