Spurs on red alert after Van Gaal reveals Premier League desire

| 20.03.2014

Holland manager Louis Van Gaal has revealed his next stop after the World Cup could well be England after revealing his desire to manage in our top flight.

The 62-year-old is leaving his post as boss of the Dutch national side after this summers’s World Cup and after winning titles in Holland, Spain and Germany, the former Barcelona boss is ready for a new challenge.

“My ambition is to coach a top team in the Premier League,” Van Gaal told German newspaper Bild. “I have never experienced the atmosphere in England.

“I want to win the league title in a fourth country. That’s my objective and I want to fulfil it.

“I like the Bundesliga a lot, but I have already won the German title. I now want to win a major trophy in another country.”

Van Gaal’s statement is sure to alert a host of club’s in the Premier League, particularly Tottenham, who have been linked with a move for the Dutchman in the summer.

Tim Sherwood signed an 18-month contract to take over from Andres Villas-Boas at White Hart Lane just over three months ago but with Spurs’ challenge for the top four fading away in recent weeks, the former Blackburn star’s time at the helm could be coming to an end.

Successive defeats to London rivals Chelsea and Arsenal have seen the Lilywhites drift out to 22/1 with Ladbrokes to make the top four and with a Europa League exit at the hands of Benfica likely, Daniel Levy could be making plans for yet another managerial change.

David Moyes was also coming under significant pressure at Manchester United after a disastrous league campaign so far but Wednesday night’s Champions League heroics have given the Scot a stay of execution at the Premier League champions.

So with the former Everton manager safe, for now, Van Gaal’s next destination looks likely to be the White Hart Lane dugout for a crack at England’s top flight.
