Wilder v Scott: Bronze Bomber to make light work of King Malik

Deontay Wilder (30-0-0) goes in search of knockout victim number 31 in Puerto Rico later this month but faces a fighter of a calibre he has yet to meet in Malik Scott (36-1-1).
The Bronze Bomber – so called for claiming third place in the 2008 Beijing Olympics – has barely broken a sweat in his career to date, winning all 30 of his professional bouts by way of knockout.
More impressive still, a staggering 17 of those KOs have come in the first round including his biggest scalp to date, Britain’s own Olympic star Audley Harrison.
Wilder was due to face another Brit in Dereck Chisora before out-of-the-ring issues put a stop to that bout but with Del Boy the only man to have beaten Scott, this fight will outline Wilder’s credentials as a top talent in the division.
The 28-year-old American is as confident as you’d expect a man with 30 KOs to his name to be and goes into this fight as the overwhelming favourite at 1/6.
However, Scott does represent a step up in class for the Alabama man and his penchant for going the distance means Wilder could struggle to maintain his incredible run.
While the 33-year-old is yet to have been tested in a bout scheduled for 12 rounds some 24 of his 36 fights have gone the distance.
The fact that he has won all but one of these outings – a draw with Ukrainian Vyacheslav Glazkov the only exception – shows that if he can avoid Wilder’s explosive power a 37th professional win could be on the cards – a feat priced at 4/1.
Wilder has attracted plenty of criticism for his erratic fighting style and many have belittled his prospects of landing a major title.
But, if the 6ft 7” powerhouse continues to blast opponents out of the ring in such relentless fashion then the division’s top talents will be forced to take notice and give the man his shot.
