Arsenal and Tottenham lock horns over former Man City misfit
Published:It won’t surprise too many to learn that Mario Balotelli’s time with AC Milan has been tumultuous, with the Rossoneri hierarchy finally starting to lose patience with the live-wire centre forward.
Following his club’s recent 2-0 defeat to Roma, which ensured that Milan would finish outside the Serie A top three for the first time in six years, the Italian became embroiled in an argument during a live television interview.
Having heatedly defended his performance, the former Manchester City striker took to Twitter to further illustrate his dismay:
“Mamma mia, I divide Italy in two! Amazing! While almost everyone overseas is united with me! What a strange game,” he said.
It could well be that those overseas admirers whisk him away from his San Siro nightmare, with Milan believed to be ready to offload the striker in the summer and Arsenal and Tottenham both willing to stump up the cash for him.
The 23-year-old, who has scored 26 Serie A goals in 40 appearances since his January switch to Milan in 2013, has never truly settled with the Clarence Seedorf-club and could well be open to a return to England.
Although he was never out of the media spotlight on these shores either, Balotelli clearly feels more appreciated elsewhere than in his native Italy.
Both the Gunners and Lilywhites could use a player of Balotelli’s stature, with both clubs seeking an athletic target man to provide competition to current incumbents Olivier Giroud and Emmanuel Adebayor respectively.
It’s likely that Arsenal sit on pole position to land the striker, considering they are staring down the barrel of yet another fourth-placed finish and Champions League football at 1/25.
Spurs on the other hand, will not be playing elite European football next term and don’t even have a solidified managerial plan for the coming campaign.
