Liverpool boss Rodgers reeling in Manchester City defender

Liverpool looks the most likely destination for Manchester City defender Micah Richards after the 25-year-old opted against signing a new deal with the Etihad club.

The Sky Blues meet the Merseysiders this Sunday in a crunch Premier League clash that could see Manuel Pellegrini’s team tighten their grip on the title with just a handful of games left to play.

Those backing a victory for the Citizens can get 9/5 on such an outcome, while a draw, which would also favour the visitors, is offered at 13/5 by Ladbrokes.

However City’s preparations for the big clash have been undermined by these latest developments which could see Richards opt for a summer move to Liverpool, with the Reds believed to be among the clubs keen to land the England international.

The Birmingham-born defender has grown frustrated at a lack of regular first-team action under Pellegrini, with the Chilean preferring to start Pablo Zabaleta at right-back, with his teammate restricted to just 10 starts this term.

And while Arsenal are thought to be keen on the full-back, Liverpool have the edge at present with the Merseysiders currently offering the City star the opportunity to sign for a club competing for top honours in the Premier League, rather than simply Champions League qualification.

This latest development is a welcome boost to the Anfield club, who appear to be gathering momentum at just the right time domestically and head into Sunday’s home clash with Sky Blues as the 11/8 favourites for a victory.

Secure a priceless win and the Merseysiders will be on course for a first title in 24 years with Ladbrokes currently offering odds of 7/4 on the Reds claiming top Premier League honours.

With Richards potentially on board with Liverpool from next term, the future is looking pretty rosy for the Reds.
