Are Chelsea the reason Kroos won’t be at Man United next season?

| 29.05.2014

A bit like Mario Balotelli running into controversy, it only seemed a matter of time before Toni Kroos became a Manchester United player, such were the regularity of the rumours surrounding the pair.

The 24-year-old had long been thought of as the Red Devils’ next playmaker, but was never lured to the club in the two transfer windows that David Moyes was in charge of the one-time treble winners.

When the Scot was replaced by Louis van Gaal, the links between next season’s 5/1 Premier League hopefuls and the Greifswald native only strengthened.

That was until recently, when Kroos revealed he would not be moving to United and staying at Bayern Munich instead.

Such a declaration would normally have put the kibosh on transfer chatter surrounding any other player, but the rumours about Kroos haven’t disappeared.

It’s well known that the 42-cap international is at loggerheads with his Allianz Arena employers over the state of his contract and he’s unlikely to renew it once it expires at the end of next term.

Currently among the middling earners at Pep Guardiola’s Bundesliga champs, Kroos is of the opinion that he should be given a wage hike to put him nearer to the club’s top paid members.

Such wage demands has Kroos looking for alternative employment, where he can earn closer to the £150,000 per week deal he craves.

Chelsea are a club who can easily accommodate the German’s request and would nab themselves an upgrade in the number 10 position for free should they lure Kroos to Stamford Bridge next summer.

Their reported interest in offering the former Bayer Leverkusen loanee a one-way ticket to financial heaven could well be the reason for Kroos’ sudden declaration against a switch to Man Utd.

Chelsea’s ongoing participation in the Champions League is sure to be a greater attraction than the Old Trafford club’s current situation too.
