Rooney’s odds enhanced to hit Hull opener at Old Trafford

| 05.05.2014

Hull are the visitors as Manchester United get their last chance this season to put on a show for the disillusioned Old Trafford faithful and what better man to come to the fore than Wayne Rooney.

While the majority of players to slip on the famous red shirt this season haven’t done it justice, Rooney has been a beacon in the darkness.

Left out of the squad through illness and injury for United’s defeat to Sunderland, Rooney is in line to make a welcome return to the starting line-up against Hull.

And punters should be equally as excited as the Red Devils fans eager to clap Wazza off the pitch for his season’s efforts, because the England striker’s price to bag the opener has been enhanced from 11/4 to 7/2.

One thing Rooney has done more consistently than any other United player in the Premier League is score goals, 17 in 29 appearances to be precise.

Only Liverpool’s ‘SAS’ and Manchester City skipper Yaya Toure have racked up higher tallies than United’s highest-paid player during 2013/14.

Although his side’s fortunes have waned badly this season, Wayne himself has kept on scoring, hitting half a dozen goals in his last seven United appearances.

Home is where he’s happiest as well, where before he was forced out of the Sunderland game he had briefly lifted the Old Trafford gloom by firing in braces during emphatic wins over
Aston Villa and then Norwich.

More importantly for would-be backers, United’s penalty taker has broken the deadlock the last three times he’s found the opposition net.
