3 best bets for Holland’s World Cup warm up with Wales

Published:

Louis van Gaal will take charge of Holland in a friendly match for the final time as Wales travel to the Amsterdam Arena for a World Cup warm-up.

Once the 90 minutes are complete the Oranje’s sights will turn to their Group B opener with Spain, but they’re set for some experimentation first as the new Manchester United manager revealed he’ll play a 4-4-2 formation against Chris Coleman’s side.

Holland’s two previous limbering-up outings have returned few goals and, with that in mind, we present the best bets for the Wales battle:

Holland to win @ 1/4

Wales visit clog country in respectable form, having gone undefeated in four games with two wins in that time.

However, they touch down in Amsterdam without their two best players, Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey, and have only won two of their last 11 away internationals – a run that includes eight losses.

Robin van Persie to score at any time @ 4/7

The Man United striker has found some pleasing scoring form since returning from injury at the dying embers of the Red Devils’ season, finding the net in each of Holland’s previous two friendly matches to take his tally to three goals in his last five games for club and country.

Van Gaal may have named his formation, but is yet to fill it with any names so taking the any time option, rather than the more plump first scorer bet, is the sensible option.

Under 2.5 goals @ 21/20

Despite their attacking talent, only two of Holland’s last eight internationals have contained over 2.5 goals and both of their recent World Cup warm ups have seen them find the net just once each time.

Wales are bashful in front of goal too. The three they scored against Iceland last time out was their first match of two or more strikes in eight outings and, without Bale and Ramsey, this smacks of another low-scorer.
