Published:The countdown to the Wimbledon final can begin in earnest, as the second week of action kicks off with some tasty looking fourth-round ties scheduled to take place.
Some matches are about as temptingly priced as a pair of holey y-fronts on Primark’s sale rail, but if you look hard enough, there is the odd pair of Calvin’s at the right price.
Luckily you won’t have to do much sifting though, as we’ve picked out the best bets for day seven at SW19:
Having disposed of one of the most dominant grass-court players since the turn of the century in the last round, Cornet is sure to be feeling confident of a deep run at this year’s tournament.
Having never made it past the third round in any of her previous appearances at Wimbledon, the Frenchwoman is already in unchartered territory with this fourth round match. However, a trip further into the unknown is expected.
Cornet has beaten Bouchard in their only previous career meeting, while the Canadian has lost six of her 13 outings on the green surface as a professional.
Like Cornet, Chardy was victorious on the only previous occasion he met his fourth round opponent, yet finds himself ranked as the underdog by the bookies.
Also similar to his female compatriot, this is Chardy’s best run at Wimbledon in his career and should be well placed to continue the fairytale over a man who has never been past the fourth round in any of his seven previous outings at the tournament.
While at first glance this seems a tough match for the men’s number one seed, in reality this has been quite a favourable opponent for Djokovic recently.
The Serb is in the middle of a nine-match winning streak over Tsonga and in that time has only failed to beat the Frenchman in straight sets once.
