French Open day 12: Serbian ace and Russian star set for final

| 04.06.2014

Novak Djokovic is apparently steaming toward yet another Major final and Maria Sharapova looks likely to make the most of Serena Williams’ exit on the ladies side of the draw.

But while the business end of the French Open is starting to take a familiar shape there is still plenty of betting opportunities to be had.

Ladbrokes News has put together the following tasty treble returning a whopping £325.74 from a stake of just £10.

Djokovic to beat Gulbis 3-0 @ 10/11

Gulbis made light work of Tomas Berdych in the last round but he meets a Novak Djokovic in top form for this tie.

The Serbian has dropped just a single set in the tournament so far and while Gulbis himself has dropped only three, the head-to-head reading suggests a walk in the park for Djoko.

In five meetings to date the world number two has won four and with all of their matches so far being straight sets affairs don’t expect a different outcome here.

Maria Sharapova to beat Eugenie Bouchard 2-0 @ 11/2

Sharapova made hard work of her last match, getting blitzed 6-1 in the opening set and requiring seven games in the second, but she looked back to her best in winning the decider 6-1.

And for this reason it should pay to keep faith with the Russian, especially given the two previous meetings between these two.

On both occasions, including at last year’s French Open, Shazza made the Bouch look less than mighty with scores of 6-2, 6-0 and 6-2, 6-4.

Golubev/ Groth to beat Benneteau/Roger-Vasselin @ 13/8

This is one for the Gut Trusters out there, but with Golubev and Groth dropping just one set at Roland Garros so far – in the opening round of the tournament – the odds-against pricing looks too good to turn down.

Their opponents in the quarter-finals have claimed some bigger scalps to get to this point but after reeling off three successive straight set wins we’re tipping the underdogs to march on.
