French star Cirrus Des Aigles set for more Group 1 success

| 06.06.2014

Derby day is one of the highlights of the Flat racing calendar and with the C4 cameras showing us every step of the action, Ladbrokes News’ Oliver Yew has come up with three best bets for the competitive card on day two at Epsom…

NAP – Cirrus Des Aigles – Epsom Downs (2.40)

The French superstar will be all the rage at Epsom tomorrow after the eight-year-old beat the talents of both Treve and Olympic Glory in Group 1 races on his last two outings. After those excellent performances we see no reason not to side with Corine Barande-Barbe’s charge and he can continue his success by overcoming French rival Flintshire to win the Coronation Cup at a short price.

NB – Australia – Epsom Derby (4.00)

Aidan O’Brien insists he has never had a horse in training quite like Australia before and why should we doubt one of the most successful trainers in the modern era? The Irishman has saddled four previous winners of the premier Classic in Galileo (2001), High Chaparral (2002) and the last two winners in Camelot and Ruler Of The World but he believes Australia is the best Flat horse he has ever trained. The three-year-old finished third in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket in a far from ideal running of that renewal and we are backing him to bounce back and give the Ballydoyle trainer his third straight Derby success.

Lively Longshot – Steps – Epsom Downs (3.15)

Tomorrow’s forecast for rain at Epsom could play havoc with people’s selections up and down the country tomorrow but if the heavens decide to open in the Surrey region tomorrow then look out for Roger Varian’s Steps in the Dash. The six-year-old already has the beating of Stuart Williams’ Eton Rifles on their Haydock form a week ago and with Kieran Fallon on board connections are hoping for a big run – and praying for the rain!
