Russia vs Korea Republic: Capello’s revolution to pay off

Published:

Fabio Capello left his role as England manager on bad terms and after seeing the Three Lions falter against the Azzurri, a comprehensive win for Russia could leave the Italian as well as punters smiling if they back these bets.

Russia are 23/20 favourites for victory following their previous win over the Korea Republic in a recent friendly, while their Asian opponents are 5/2 for the win and the draw can be backed at 12/5.

But rather than pick from any one of those selections, why not make the most of you money by taking on one of the following three tips:

Russia to win to nil @ 9/4

While Russia may lack in some areas, Fabio Capello certainly appears to have made them defensively sound, with just five goals conceded in 10 qualifying games – a record some four goals better than Portugal.

Russia have been in good defensive form of late, shipping just one goal from their last four games. In contract, South Korea have lost four of their last five, failing to score in each of those defeats.

Viktor Fayzulin to score anytime @ 7/2

With competition for the sole forward position proving fierce, punters may be better off backing someone who looks a near-certainty to start for Russia – Viktor Fayzulin.

The midfielder has been a mainstay of Capello’s team and was Russia’s second top scorer in qualifying. Likely to play throughout this crucial encounter with the Korea Republic, he looks a good bet to score at any time here.

Russia – First Half – Team to score first @ 7/5

If Capello’s team are to live up to their status as favourites for the win, then the first goal of the game will prove key.

Russia racked up the first goal in five of their seven wins during qualification for the World Cup and will be expected to strike first against a Korea side that has gone behind in eight of their last 11 games.
