Wimbledon Day 3: Berdych set to overcome tough Tomic test

Published:

We are into day three of this year’s Wimbledon and we have three Brits in the second round at SW19!

Reigning champion Andy Murray has been joined by Heather Watson and Naomi Broady in flying the flag for Great Britain on the hallowed grass but we are looking elsewhere for our best bets on Wednesday.

Read on to find out our three best bets for all the action on Wednesday at the All England Club…

Berdych to beat Tomic 3-1 @ 9/4

These two met on the grass of Wimbledon last year in the fourth round with Berdych coming out on top 3-1 against the Aussie in what has been their only career meeting to date.

Tomic has reached the quarter-finals at SW19 once before and is a dangerous opponent for the 2010 finalist, but we are backing the Czech number one to succeed with a repeat scoreline from last year.

Kvitová to beat Barthel 2-0 @ 10/3

It’s been an inconsistent year for German Mona Barthel who now finds herself languishing at number 59 in the world, 36 places below her career high ranking.

The 23-year-old now faces 2011 Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitová as she bids to reach the third round for the first time.

Despite taking a set off Kvitová back in 2012 on the hard court at the Western and Southern Group Open, this looks a tough ask for Barthel and Kvitová can triumph in straight sets on a surface she has excelled on in the past.

Baghdatis to beat Mayer 3-1 @ 2/7

Marcos Baghdatis may have needed a wildcard to secure his place at the All England Club but proved to be too strong for Rafael Nadal’s conqueror at Halle, Dustin Johnson.

The Cypriot, who has reached the semi-finals at Wimbledon in the past, now meets Leonardo Mayer in the second round and is the overwhelming favourite with Ladbrokes to progress.

While 2/7 is far too short a price to back Baghdatis with any confidence why not pick the 29-year-old for victory but dropping a set in the process.
