Wimbledon Day 4: Ivanovic and Hewitt set to be humbled

| 25.06.2014

It’s day four of Wimbledon already and while the likes of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal are expected to make short work of their second round opponents, we are predicting a few surprises elsewhere.

Swiss superstar Federer made light work of Paolo Lorenzi last time out, winning in straight sets while the King of Clay overcame a spirited start from Martin Klizan to progress.

But with no end to the SW19 action in sight, read on for three potential upsets that combine for a treble paying out at odds of just over 25/1!

Jerzy Janowicz to beat Lleyton Hewitt @ 6/5

A winner at Wimbledon way back in 2002, Lleyton Hewitt has struggled at SW19 in recent times as the Aussie continues into the twilight years of his career having failed to advance past the second round in each of his last three visits.

The 33-year-old made hard work of Michal Przysiezny, who was ranked as high as no.57 in the world back in January, with the Pole taking the match to four sets via a marathon 16-14 tie break win.

Last year’s semi-finalist Jerzy Janowicz hardly fared much better but with the Pole’s biggest enemy often being himself, a tantrum-free performance should see him progress.

Zie Zheng to beat Ana Ivanovic @ 4/1

Undoubtedly the outside bet of Thursday’s action, Ana Ivanovic may have eased past Francesca Schiavone in straight sets but with the Serbian struggling to make an impact at Wimbledon since her 2007 semi-final appearance, an early exit could be on the cards.

A tricky second round meeting with Zie Zheng could do it, with the Chinese star beating Ivanovic in their only previous meeting at SW19 back in 2008 and in good form herself having seen off Annika Beck in some style with a 6-1, 6-3 victory.

And with odds as tempting as these, it may just be worth ditching the flags and Murray chants for a day to back China’s finest Zie Zheng to do the job.

Dusan Lajovic to beat Lukasz Kubot @ 11/8

Fresh from reaching the fourth round at Roland Garros, little was expected of Serbian youngster Dusan Lajovic when he went up against no.28 seed Guillermo Garcia-Lopez in the previous round.

But after racing into a 2-0 lead, the 23-year-old showed plenty of character to survive a two-set fightback from the Spaniard and hold his nerve in the final set, to set up this meeting with Luksaz Kubot who, despite reaching the quarter finals last year has gone out in the first round in each of his last three appearances at a Major. It’s time to back the underdog again.
