Sanchez to Arsenal heads bill of top-four World Cup targets

Published:

It’s looking increasingly like Chile’s World Cup star Alexis Sanchez will be moving to Arsenal rather than Liverpool. Perhaps he’s a sucker for a London bus, but who else to have graced Brazilian turf this summer have last season’s Premier League top four got lined up?

Manchester City – 7/4 to win the Premier League

World Cup targets: Elaquim Mangala

Having sewn up deals for Porto midfielder Fernando and Malaga keeper Willy Caballero the only World Cup star City have been consistently linked to is Frenchman Eliquam Mangala.

Despite the 22-year-old Porto defender not featuring for Les Bleus due to a swarm of high-class competition in his position, the champions are still thought to be super keen on acquiring the centre-back’s services.

Liverpool – 15/2 to win the Premier League

World Cup targets: Alexis Sanchez, Dejan Lovren, Divok Origi

Who haven’t the Reds been linked with? As mentioned above, Liverpool’s hopes of tying down Barcelona winger Sanchez as part of a deal to sell Luis Suarez, appears to have faded.

If Benfica’s Lazar Markovic scratches the winger itch for Brendan Rodgers then Croatia World Cup defender Dejan Lovren and Belgium’s 19-year-old hot-shot Divok Origi will remain their biggest World Cup targets.

Chelsea – 15/8 to win the Premier League

World Cup targets: Diego Costa, Elaquim Mangala,

It’s been strangely quiet on the west-London transfer rumour front by Chelsea standards, though Cesc Fabregas’ capture will take some beating.

Fab’s Spanish teammate Diego Costa is yet to be officially unveiled however while the Blues have also been linked with Mangala since the summer of 2013.

Arsenal – 8/1 to win the Premier League

World Cup targets: Alexis Sanchez, Mathieu Debuchy, Mario Balotelli, Karim Benzema

Arsenal’s chances of netting the forthcoming Premier League title will receive a serious boon if Sanchez signs on the dotted line as is expected.

Capturing the Chile forward could well dampen links with other forwards such as Mario Balotelli or Karim Benzema though. However, a deal which does appear to be drawing ever closer, is France right-back Mathieu Debuchy arriving from Newcastle.
