3 ways to get your money working in the US Open men’s outrights

| 18.08.2014

There’s only one week left to whittle down the US Open contenders into a bunch of value wagers, so news.Ladbrokes have run the rule over the market in New York to find the best betting angles.

We’re recommending a split-stake strategy involving single, double and treble-digit doozies to go mob-handed into the last Grand Slam event of the year.

Roger Federer @ 7/2

The world number three took the Cincinnati Masters for the sixth time at the weekend, and Federer has gone on to double up at New York twice already during his remarkable career so far.

New coach Stefan Edberg is clearly earning his crust, as the 33-year-old qualified for the ATP World Tour finals comfortably courtesy of his win in Ohio, as opposed to 2013, when the Swiss scraped into the London season-ender with a week to go.

Now Rafael Nadal has been ruled out, and with Andy Murray struggling for consistency this summer, five-time US Open champion Federer looks like the man to put it up to 6/5 jolly Novak Djokovic.

Grigor Dimitrov @ 14/1

The young contender to break up tennis’ big four has never successfully traversed the first round in four attempts at Flushing Meadows, but Dimitrov’s 2014 form makes him a must back to win a first Grand Slam here.

Having gone past the second round just once in 13 Grand Slam events prior to this season, the 23-year-old made the quarter-finals in Australia and the last four at Wimbledon, so he’s clearly on quite the upward trajectory.

Nick Kyrgios @ 100/1

Nadal’s fourth-round conqueror is up to 58th in the world rankings after the latest matriculations, largely due to his last-eight appearance at SW19.

Kyrgios followed up a Junior Wimbledon quarter-final appearance in 2012 with a last-eight showing in the equivalent at the US Open a month later, so he may go much better here than his treble-figure price suggests.
