Chelsea backed for Premier League glory in Ladbrokes News verdict!

| 18.08.2014

With the excitement building towards the start of the Premier League pundits are crawling out of the woodwork everywhere and with predictions flying around from every angle, it’s time to get the Ladbrokes News verdict.

From a Manchester United resurgence to Manchester City defending their title and Arsenal finally getting their hands back on the Premier League crown, members of the News.Ladbrokes team have picked out who they think will lift the title come May.

But it’s a Special One love-in at Ladbrokes Towers with Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea coming out on top in the verdict!

Crowther’s Premier League verdict: Chelsea @ 19/10

Christian Crowther says: “If last season’s Premier League title was a hard one to call (right up until Jose Mourinho’s ‘little horse’ claptrap during the run-in), then sounding out the 2014-15 winners is proving to be a nightmare.

“Of the three main contenders last season, Chelsea have undoubtedly been the most impressive in the transfer market. All the big teams have an abundance of attacking talent (as do the Blues) but I believe Chelsea will win this title because they boast the most robust defence.”

Curtis’ Premier League Verdict – Manchester United @ 5/1

James Curtis says: “Liverpool showed last year that a lack of European football can work wonders for your Premier League chances. The Reds were just a Steven Gerrard slip away from the title and while United faltered hugely under David Moyes much of the side that won the title the year before remains.

“Louis van Gaal has United purring again and Red Devils fans can expect improvements from Juan Mata and Adnan Januzaj while the return of Darren Fletcher and arrival of Ander Herrera will boost the midfield.

“United already look much stronger than last season and if Van Gaal can add to his defence – as he’s expected to do – the Dutch master could add the English title to his already glowing CV.”

Geldarts’ Premier League Verdict: Chelsea @ 19/10

William Geldart says: “Blues boss Jose Mourinho openly downplayed his side’s chances last season, describing his team as very much a work in progress on a number of occasions.

“But the Portuguese manager has been far less coy ahead of the new campaign, stating that he’s now built a squad capable of competing at the top for the next decade.

“I think there are still question marks over Chelsea’s forward line but if Diego Costa can hit the ground running then those doubts will soon disappear.

“Chelsea have got an excellent blend of youth and experience with their midfield of Eden Hazard, Andre Schurrle, Cesc Fabregas, Willian and Oscar especially mouth-watering.

“They’ve strengthened in all the right areas and are likely to be even stronger this term.”

Yew’s Premier League verdict: Arsenal @ 13/2

Oliver Yew says: “Year on year we always hear Arsenal are two players away from winning the title.

“Well this year the Gunners have not lost any superstar players and have added Alexis Sanchez, David Ospina and Calum Chambers to the squad, while Mathieu Debuchy has replaced Bacary Sagna.

“Arsene Wenger’s men finally got the trophy drought monkey off their back last year and that new found confidence can spur the north London club, who are expected to strengthen further before the close of the transfer window, onto their first Premier League title since 2004.”

Stones’ Premier League Verdict: Chelsea @ 19/10

Ben Stones says: “Diego Costa’s arrival at Chelsea could be a masterstroke from Mourinho.

“If he can transfer his La Liga form to the Premier League, and fill that troublesome centre forward position at the Bridge, I see the title heading to west London.

“Manchester City will be thereabouts, but haven’t made any signings over the summer that have really made me sit up and take notice.”

Beresford’s Premier League Verdict: Manchester City @ 15/8

Jack Beresford says: “Man City are my pick following a summer in which Manuel Pellegrini has strengthened his squad with Eliaquim Mangala and Fernando, while retaining stars like Yaya Toure, David Silva and Sergio Aguero.

“Stevan Jovetic will feel like a new signing and though a few top four battles with the likes of Chelsea may be lost, City will win the war by being consistent against the lesser lights.”

Fortune’s Ladbrokes News Verdict: Chelsea @ 19/10

Alex ‘listen to me and make your’ Fortune says: “Chelsea will win the Premier League this year because…

“Jose Mourinho has never spent two full seasons managing the same club without winning the title.

“New signing Diego Costa scored eight more league goals than Chelsea’s three centre-forwards combined last term. His Atletico Madrid side won La Liga for the first time in 18 seasons.

“After their summer transfer business, the Blues now have the best balanced squad in England.”
