Galway Races: Take on Ted Veale with De Bromheads likely lad

| 01.08.2014

Here at news.Ladbrokes weve been trawling through the form lines at the Galway Festival, with 5/1 and 10/1 NAPS Most Peculiar and Dalkova landed during the week and 15/8 NB Shield also bringing home the bacon for this column on the Atlantic coast.

If any of your picks finishes second to a Weld winner at Ballybrit, Ladbrokes will refund losing stakes up to /25*, but weve eschewed the veteran for three nice-priced challengers on the seventh and final day in the Emerald Isle.

NAP 3.20 Clonbanan Lad @ 5/2

Guinness Hurdle-winning trainer Tony Martins Ted Veale will go off favourite in this 2m1f chase, but the 2013 Cheltenham Festival County Hurdle winner has not yet taken to fences, palpably struggling in the Arkle and in three runs since.

Seventh and eighth-place finishes this season should worry backers of the Martin inmate, whereas Henry De Bromheads Clonbanan Lad has made it into the each-way spots three times in six races since switching to the bigger obstacles 11 months ago.

De Bromhead has taken this twice in the last four years, including last season with Darwins Fox, and Clonbanan Lad mixed with some fine company over hurdles, so expect a big run.

NB 5.30 Landau @ 13/2

Having taken two All-Weather events at the back end of last season, Gordon Elliots Aussie Rules gelding has been edging ever closer to a first win on turf and came within half-a-length of touching off Mr Snagsby at Leopardstown last time out.

With crack 1m4f horseman Joseph OBrien aboard for the first time, this could be the four-year-olds moment.

Lively Longshot 2.45 Boss Croaker @ 8/1

Cork-based handler Robert Tyner doesnt have many horses in training, but the inmates he has tend to put up decent shows.

Boss Croaker falls into this category, and the seven-year-old has made the places three times in his last four runs, winning once.

With preferred jockey Paul Townend in the saddle for this open handicap hurdle, the Tyner animal looks well worth an each-way punt.
