Leeds United find McCormack replacement in League One hotshot
Published:Leeds United have reportedly opened talks with Rotherham United to sign striker Kieran Agard, as manager Dave Hockaday looks to fill the void left by the departure of Ross McCormack to Fulham.
The Scotland international departed Elland Road for the Londoners in an £11m deal earlier this summer, having scored 28 goals for Leeds in the Championship last season.
Agard enjoyed a prolific season with the Millers in League One last term, scoring 21 goals in the league to help fire Steve Evans’ team to a second successive promotion.
That has been enough to catch the attention of Leeds, with the Yorkshire Evening Post reporting that the club have contacted Rotherham with a view to thrashing out a deal for the striker, who started his career on the books of Premier League side Everton.
No fee has yet been mentioned, though the 24-year-old would be the 11th new face at Elland Road in what is shaping up to be a season of transition for the club.
Billy Sharp has already arrived at the Yorkshire club this week for an undisclosed fee from Southampton, but the signing of Agard would represent a major coup for the Whites who are keen to kick-on after losing their opening fixture of the season.
Leeds went down 2-0 to Millwall at the New Den last weekend and while a midweek League Cup victory over lowly Accrington Stanley has eased some of the pressure on new manager Hockaday ahead of the team’s first home game of the season against Middlesbrough.
The new manager of the Yorkshire club has come in for intense criticism since his appointment, with many pundits and former players questioning the recruitment of a manager whose previous role came with Conference side Forest Green Rovers, where he was sacked.
