Are Liverpool closing in on a deal for Monaco star Falcao?

Liverpool’s hunt for a Luis Suarez replacement appears to be coming to a close if reports emerging from Twitter are to be believed.

The Reds have been linked with a move for Monaco striker Radamel Falcao with respected Italian football journalist Mina Rzouki claiming Brendan Rodgers is at the front of the queue for the Colombian star’s signature.

But if only signing a big name striker was as simple as that, with both Real Madrid and Manchester City linked with moves for the former Atlético Madrid star.

Los Blancos were thought to be in pole position to bring the Colombian international to the Bernabeu but reports in Italy claimed Manuel Pellegrini was watching the situation closely having admired the striker’s talents for some time.

But with a series of tweets, Rzouki appeared to suggest Liverpool were in deep negotiations over a move for the 28-year-old, who scored his first goal since returning from a serious knee injury at the Emirates Cup.

The Merseyside club have spent nearly £100m so far this summer following Suarez’s move to Barcelona but with Rickie Lambert the only addition to the strike force, Rodgers is still looking to strengthen in that department.

Falcao, who scored 52 times in just 68 matches at the Vincente Calderon, is reportedly available on loan but it remains to be seen whether he would be keen on a move to Anfield.

The former Porto star is gradually building himself back up to full fitness after missing the second half of the Ligue 1 season as well as the World Cup but there is no doubting his goalscoring ability.

He fired 11 goals for the principality club in just 19 matches before injury wrecked his season and if Liverpool, who are 12/1 to win the Premier League, can pull of a deal ahead of any potential rivals then it would be a real coup as Brendan Rodgers looks to build on last season’s impressive showing.
