Man Utd’s dallying over Di Maria should be pounced on by Arsenal

Published:

Certain national newspaper reports which claim Louis van Gaal is distancing himself from sanctioning a potential swoop for Real Madrid winger Angel Di Mari are sure to rankle Manchester United fans unanimously.

Whether this viewpoint can be substantiated is another matter, but it would be a strange play from the Dutchman with the need for world class reinforcements at Old Trafford abundantly clear.

Having apparently passed up on pursuing either Cesc Fabregas or Toni Kroos this summer, and the trail leading to Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal going colder than the ‘Ice Bucket Challenge’, Di Maria is offering a marquee-signing lifeline.

However, if United continue to be indecisive the player’s desires to leave the Bernabeu should be registering loudly down at Arsenal.

Although Alexis Sanchez has already arrived in north London for a decent amount of cash, the Gunners could steal a march on the other Premier League superpowers going for the title.

Leading contenders Chelsea at 11/8 have already padded out their stellar squad with two landmark additions in the form of Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa.

Meanwhile, champions Manchester City (15/8) have thrown £32m at powerhouse defender Eliaquim Mangala.

While it’s true Arsenal have also spent well with Callum Chambers and Mathieu Debuchy arriving, these two players are more replacements, seeing as Bacary Sagna and Thomas Vermaelen have sought moves away.

Arsenal’s squad strength ultimately cost them the title last year, but if they added another megastar like Di Maria, their chances become that much brighter.

The Argentine may not be the exact profile of Arsenal need in terms of position, though Wenger has the perfect chance to steal a march and Di Maria’s versatile nature means he could be accommodated.
