Price Boost: Man City and Chelsea top-two double gets big bump

Published:

Premier League champions Manchester City and three-time winners Chelsea currently share favouritism at 15/8 apiece for the title this term, with Manchester United way back at 5s and 13/2 bar.

With that in mind, Ladbrokes’ boosted 3/1 odds (from 15/8) on the market principles filling the top two spots this term look frankly irresponsible, although you’ll only be able to avail of this offer until midnight.

The 2011/12 and 2013/14 title victors took a thumping off FA Cup holders Arsenal in the Community Shield, with Arsene Wenger’s men running out 3-0 winners at Wembley last weekend.

However, Manuel Pellegrini was missing first-team starters Sergio Aguero, Pablo Zabaleta and captain Vincent Kompany in north-west London, while new signings Bacary Sagna and Eliaquim Mangala are expected to slot straight into the Citizens’ backline.

City are sure to hit form when their marquee names return from post-World Cup rests, but they will struggle to edge ahead of Chelsea by mid-May.

Jose Mourinho seems to have deftly dealt with the deficiencies in his squad, largely thanks to a  £50m windfall from Paris St-Germain for unwanted centre-half David Luiz.

Diego Costa’s 27 La Liga goals in 35 fixtures last season convinced the Blues to part with £32m for his signature, and the Brazil-born striker should receive plenty of service from La Seleccion teammate Cesc Fabregas, who has arrived at Stamford Bridge from Barcelona.

With fellow newboys Filipe Luis and Thibaut Courtois coming in to bolster the backline, Mourinho looks to have the most balanced first XI in the top flight.

The Special One hasn’t missed out on successive titles with the same club for well over a decade, so Chelsea should go very well.
