Inter already sounding out deal for unwanted Liverpool striker

| 04.09.2014

Liverpool may well have been expecting trouble from their Italian striker, but it’s Fabio Borini not Mario Balotelli who’s given them the run around this week.

It was well known that the Reds had accepted offers from both Sunderland and QPR for their misfit forward, but in the end Borini stood firm and opted to stay and fight for his place at Anfield.

However, no sooner have Liverpool taken the decision to include the former Roma player in their 25-man Premier League squad, than rumours bubbled to the surface Inter are willing to bid £10m for his services come January.

Having excelled in Serie A for Roma, it seems like a viable move, though Borini was adamant he’d made the right decision to dig his heels on Merseyside for the next few months at least.

While the decision rates as a noble one, the evidence would suggest Borini will probably struggle to even make the bench for his current employers.

Before the arrival of his compatriot Balotelli, England striker Rickie Lambert was already in front of him in the pecking order of strikers where Daniel Sturridge is king.

Brendan Rodgers’ preference to often deploy just one centre-forward in a 4-3-3 formation on numerous occasions last season makes it all the tougher for Borini to get any game time.

Injuries to others and the odd cup appearance look like being Borini’s only keys to unlocking the first-team door.

The Reds are 1/4 to win their next Premier League assignment at home to Aston Villa.
