Pardew may be next Premier League manager to go at Newcastle
Published:Alan Pardew has emerged as a surprise front-runner to be the next Premier League manager to leave his post amid speculation that the Newcastle boss has two games left to save himself from the chop.
According to a report from the Independent, which cites unnamed sources close to the club, the 53-year-old is already under pressure following a poor start to the Premier League season that has seen the Magpies pick up just two points from the first nine available.
That return follows a busy summer of spending on Tyneside, with club owner Mike Ashley authorising over £40 million in expenditure on players like Remy Cabella and Daryl Janmaat.
And while Ashley stood by the Toon boss following last season’s altercation with Hull player David Meyler – an incident that saw Pardew fined £100,000 after head butting the Tigers star – it is thought that his poor relationship with the fans is a major concern.
Many supporters are unhappy at the way the Newcastle boss froze out French midfielder Hatem Ben Arfa, following a dressing room altercation with the 27-year-old.
Over 400 fans turned out to see the winger in action for the Magpies reserves over the recent Bank Holiday weekend and these supporters, as well as many more besides, were thought to be angered by the deadline day deal that saw Ben Arfa head to local rivals Hull on loan.
Pardew now reportedly has just two games to turn things around at Newcastle, with the Magpies next in Premier League action away at Southampton and priced at 16/5 for the win, while the draw is offered at 5/2 with Ladbrokes.
Fail to win at St Mary’s and it could all come down to their following fixture against Hull at St James’Park, with the Magpies 10/11 favourites for the win while the draw is 23/10.
But should Steve Bruce’s team triumph, with such an outcome offered at 5/2 with the bookmakers, then Pardew could well depart.
The Newcastle United boss is currently 3/1 to be the next Premier League manager to leave his post.
