Pardew’s Newcastle United gloom worsens amid Ferreyra claims

| 18.09.2014

Newcastle United’s preparations for what is already shaping up to be a make-or-break game against Hull for Alan Pardew have suffered something of a setback amid reports that new signing Facundo Ferreyra is struggling at the club.

The Magpies came in for some criticism from their fans for failing to recruit a proven striker over the summer, with the unknown trio of Ferreyra, Ayoze Perez and Emmanuel Riviere brought to the club.

All three have so far failed to get off the mark in the Premier League, with the situation further compounded by developments at local rivals Hull.

The Tigers splashed out £9m to bring Abel Hernandez to the KC Stadium and the Uruguay international duly rewarded his new club with a goal on his debut against West Ham.

And while Perez is regarded as one for the future at Newcastle and Riviere has shown flashes of the class that convinced the Magpies to spend £6m on the former AS Monaco man, Ferreyra has made little to no impact.

Yet to feature for the Toon in the top-flight, the Chronicle has today claimed that the Argentine has so far failed to impress those behind the scenes at the club with a series of abject displays in training.

This, coupled with a seemingly poor attitude, has seen Ferreyra fail to even feature for the Newcastle reserve side.

Signed on the recommendation of compatriot and club captain Fabricio Coloccini, the 23-year-old boasted a solid scoring record prior to his arrival from Shakhtar on loan.

But he is already drawing comparisons with notorious flop Xisco and could yet head back to Ukraine if he fails to pick up his form.

A striker crisis is the last thing Newcastle United need at present, with Siem de Jong and Papiss Cisse both out through injury and the club struggling for goals in the top-flight, having failed to score in two of their three Premier League games so far this season.
