Pochettino’s Spurs wrath heads 5 things we can’t wait to see

| 27.09.2014

The Premier League has just carried on giving since the transfer window shut, with crazy come-from-behind victories, a few shocking performances from expensively assembled outfits, plus the odd top-of-the-table classic.

It’s all going off again when Saturday comes. Here are the five things we can’t wait to see this weekend.

The scale of Pochettino’s Spurs shake-up

After the Lilywhites’ shocking display at home to West Brom in the Premier League, when they were lucky to only lose 1-0, the Argentine coach made 11 changes for the visit of Nottingham Forest in the Capital One Cup.

The nervy 3-1 win over Stuart Pearce’s smart youngsters proved little, but Pochettino will surely retain defenders Ben Davies, and/or centre-halves Federico Fazio and Jan Vertonghen, for the north London derby at Arsenal.

However, the fact that one looks likely to make way in favour of captain Younes Kaboul, one of the worst offenders against the Baggies, will worry fans.

A fourth Arsenal home win in six games this season looks big at 4/5.

Sam Allardyce’s expected Manchester Utd backlash

You can say what you want about West Ham’s Big Sam, but he sure can manage expectations.

Having seen off Liverpool at home with some ease last time out, Allardyce takes his Irons, who are unbeaten on the road since the final day of last season, to face a United side decimated in defence.

The former Bolton gaffer says he fears a ‘backlash’. You can back West Ham to win with both teams scoring at 11/1.

Another tight Merseyside derby

The last nine Premier League fixtures between Liverpool and Everton at Anfield have gone W-D-W-D-W-D-W-D-W, and there have been more ties than home victories since the last time the Toffees won in their neighbours’ backyard back in 1999.

With both Reds and Blues coming into this match having claimed three points from there last three Premier League fixtures, 14/5 about honours even looks decent, while 18/5 on the score draw also appeals.

If Nigel Pearson can get his tactics right against Crystal Palace

The Leicester coach has taken a leaf from his Rugby counterparts by directing proceedings from high up in the stands.

It seemed to work in the 5-3 win over Man Utd, as space behind the defence became apparent after the visitors had gone 2-0 and 3-1 up, with pacey forward Jamie Vardy doing much of the rest.

At Selhurst Park, Pearson will be faced with a much more tethered beast and may need to reshuffle his pack again.

Vardy wasn’t on the pitch for any of his side’s previous Premier League goals against Stoke, Arsenal and Everton. That makes the former Fleetwood flyer a poor 29/10 to follow up his strike against Louis van Gaal’s men with another in South Norwood.

A Burnley goal

It has now been 436 minutes since Scott Arfield put Burnley in front against Chelsea on the opening day. A 1-0 loss and three goalless draws have followed.

If they can’t bag against a West Brom side who’ve conceded in each of their four all-competition home games this term, the Clarets will know they have a serious problem.

The Baggies are 29/20 to keep a clean sheet at home to Sean Dyche’s side, while both teams to score is available at 9/10.
