Wigan v Ipswich: Crackshot defender ‘heads’ our 3 best bets

| 21.09.2014

Last term’s unlucky promotion missouts Wigan weren’t expected to be languishing in the bottom half seven fixtures into the current Championship campaign, although Uwe Rosler’s Latics are yet to feel the icy hand of defeat on their shoulders at home so far in 2014/15.

We’re tipping them to extend an unbeaten run that harks back to April on their own patch against Ipswich, although the DW Stadium faithful are unlikely to be thrilled with the manner of the predicted loss-avoidance.

Here are our three best bets for the north-west clash:

Christophe Berra to score @ 10/1

The Scotland centre-half is impossible to rule out for an away effort after finding the back of the net three times in Ipswich’s last two road fixtures.

All of them have been headers, so punters who’ve had a flutter on Berra notching at the DW can expect their hearts to do the same every time Mick McCarthy’s men set up for an attacking set-piece.

Score Draw @ 18/5

Both of the aforementioned games Berra nodded home in ended honours even with both sides scoring.

Wigan kicked off their Championship campaign with a 1-1 draw at home to Reading, and although they’ve won both their games since when hosting, a 1-0 triumph last month over wretched Blackpool gives an indication as to Rosler’s men’s lack of consistency.

They currently lie 16th, having taken one point from five away fixtures so far.

Callum McManaman to score first @ 11/2

The Liverpudlian winger has bagged four goals already this season, with half of those opening proceedings in their respective matches and another doubling up after one of the aforementioned.

Ipswich have gone behind in each of their four all-competition away fixtures so far this term, including against League One Crawley in the Capital One Cup.

Take advantage of their tortoise-esque road form by backing a McManaman deadlock-breaker.
