Dani Alves: I’m coming to the Premier League next season
The Premier League’s top clubs will be on red alert after Barcelona full-back Dani Alves was quoted as saying this will be his last season at the Camp Nou.
The Brazilian international has spent six years in Catalunya and has been an integral part in the success Barca have achieved during that period.
But the 31-year-old has reportedly revealed he is set for a new challenge next season with England’s top flight his probable destination.
“Next season I will be playing in England,” Alves is reported as saying in Brazilian newspaper O Globo.
“This is my last season at Barca.
“I want to play at the home of football,” he is also alleged to have added.
The former Sevilla star stopped short as to revealing who his next club will be but after helping Barcelona to two Champions League trophies, four La Liga titles and two Spanish Cup successes there will be no shortage of offers from the Premier League’s big boys.
Manchester United and Liverpool look the most likely destinations for a player who has won 79 caps for Brazil with both sides desperate for defensive reinforcements.
Louis van Gaal, whose side shipped five goals against Leicester, is thought to have concerns about Rafael and the right back’s Brazilian counterpart would be the ideal replacement at Old Trafford.
Liverpool also have concerns in the same area of the field with Glen Johnson out of contract next summer and new signing Javi Manquillo failing to impress so far this season.
The Reds are not thought to be keen on extending Johnson’s £100,000-a-week deal and therefore would be very interested in bringing Alves to Anfield.
Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal all seem to be well stocked in the full-back department at the moment and any move for the Brazil star seems unlikely at this stage.
But in football things can change quickly, especially when a player of the stature of Alves, who has made 192 appearances for Barcelona, becomes available in the transfer market.
