X Factor: Lauren jumps to the top of our pile after week 2

Published:

It takes a special kind of performer to dominate 80s week on X Factor. And in Lauren Platt we saw a singer who was more than ready to take on the challenge.

Like many of the contestants vying for the 2014 X Factor crown the 17-year-old from Essex wasn’t even born in the decade of big hair and even bigger show tunes.

But that didn’t stop Lauren making her mark to close in on market leader Andrea Faustini and breathe new life into this year’s betting heat.

The 3/1 second favourite is now hot on the heels of the 22-year-old from Rome with punters piling into her chances of success.

Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: “The sheer volume of support for Lauren in just a matter of hours is rocking the market. She’s looking like a serious contender to jostle favouritism out of Andrea’s hands.”

Here’s a rundown of our top ranking performers:

Lauren Platt – 3/1 to win X Factor

The judges loved her and so did the public with Digital Spy readers voting Lauren their favourite performer of 80s week.

We knew she was good but her powerful version of Irena Cara’s What a Feeling even brought Mel B to her feet.

High praise indeed.

Andrea Faustini – 15/8

He may not be quite as red-hot as he was last week but Andrea is still the one to beat.

As Cheryl told him following his rendition of Whitney Houston’s ‘One Moment in Time’, is there anything you can’t sing?

Simon wasn’t as impressed with the Italian’s perceived over-theatrics but don’t let that put you off.

Fleur East – 12/1

A ‘young Mel B’ according to Louis, Fleur is blossoming into a serious contender.

She has the look, the attitude and plenty of heart but will we see the weaknesses displayed at judges’ houses re-emerge?

Not at this rate. She’s too busy becoming a real star of this year’s show.
