Man City to say ‘Goodbye Guidetti’ to Celtic star in January

| 28.10.2014

On-loan Manchester City striker John Guidetti may have already played his last game for the Sky Blues with Celtic keen on completing a permanent deal for the 22-year-old.

Signed in a deal completed in the days directly after the close of the summer transfer window, Guidetti has hit the ground running for the Bhoys this season, scoring five goals in his first seven games to leave some Hoops fans hoping they may have uncovered the next Henrik Larsson.

There are certainly some similarities with Guidetti a Sweden international who has previously thrived in the Eredivisie as Larsson did in the years prior to his Parkhead switch.

Loaned out to Feyenoord by City back in the 2011-12 season, Guidetti scored 20 goals in 23 games for the Dutch giants and would have made more of an impact at the Etihad in the years that followed had a series of injuries not curtailed his playing time.

Now back playing regularly and fully fit, the striker is starting to show some of the form that made so many Manchester City fans sit up and take notice.

Little wonder then that Celtic are reportedly weighing up a permanent move for the player, who is in the final year of his contract with City and could leave the Etihad on a free transfer come the end of the season.

Speaking to the Daily Record, Hoops boss Ronny Deila expressed his eagerness to recruit the player on a permanent deal.

“We are talking to everybody around him and to him also, and he is positive,” he said.

“His contract with City is only to the end of the season so we hope to do that as quickly as possible.”

But with Guidetti continuing to impress north-of-the-border, the forward could yet attract interest from elsewhere, meaning Celtic may need to move quickly to complete a deal.
