NFL Accumulator: We pick the struggling Jags on the handicap
Published:As the second quarter of the NFL season kicks off, we’ve picked out a tasty looking treble that pays just short of 6/1 over the course of the weekend:
Two sides that rely heavily on their running games collide at the NRG Stadium, which should point to an attritional, low-scoring affair.
Both sides are in the top four in the league for rush attempts, while Dallas top the table in terms of yards gained.
On the back of that running game, the Cowboys’ 28.8 points-per-game ranks fourth but the Texans’ mark of 21.8 should see the game’s tally fall short of Ladbrokes’ line.
In Week 1 of the season, the Jags took a surprising 17-0 half-time lead over the Philadelphia Eagles before inevitably losing. Since then they’ve been outscored 152-41 and haven’t had a victory in seven straight.
BUT, last week the Steelers lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who were winless at the time. The Black and Gold have had losing records after the first five games of the season for the last two campaigns and have “only” beaten Jacksonville by five points or fewer in their last three meetings.
Cincinnati Bengals to beat New England Patriots @ 20/23
The Bengals are one of just two unbeaten teams remaining in the league and visit the struggling Patriots allowing the fewest points-per-game in the NFL, at just 11.0.
Tom Brady’s side is experiencing a serious decline on the offensive side of the ball, with their future-Hall-of-Fame quarterback ranking 30th of 34 for passing-yards-per-contest.
While the Pats’ defense has largely earned the side their 2-2 record, they are still allowing 2.5 points more on average than they’re scoring, which is more than enough for the impressive Bengals to take advantage of.
