Strictly: Jake Wood and Frankie Bridge the new 5/2 joint-favs

| 13.10.2014

Jake Wood and Frankie Bridge are the joint favourites to win Strictly Come Dancing this year, according to Ladbrokes.

After taking first place in the leaderboard once again with her Paso Doble, Frankie and dance partner Kevin Clifton have now joined the Eastenders star and Janette Manrara in top spot of the betting market, making them the joint 5/2 jollies to be crowned as the 2014 champion.

It was after Frankie and Kevin, who scored 45 (out of 50) wowed the audience and judges alike with their strong performance, earning them the first 10 of the series from guest judge Donny Osmond.

Jake and Janette also impressed the judges to score 40 but they could not hit the heights of the previous week with their Godfather-themed Waltz.

Popstar Pixie Lott’s odds have drifted out slightly to 4/1 despite scoring 43 with their Beauty and the Beast quickstep but it is TV presenter Caroline Flack who is creeping up on the outside rail after her impressive start to the competition.

The former Xtra Factor host is now rated as a 5/1 shot to lift the Glitterball Trophy after picking up a score of 42 for her Rumba alongside dancer Pasha Kovalev.

At the other end of the leaderboard there was a real shock with one-time potential winner Simon Webbe finding himself in the bottom two.

The Blue star’s rumba fell flat with both the judging panel and the bookies as the popstar now finds himself out to 20/1 to win Strictly from 11/2.

In the end the judges saved Simon in favour of Mrs Brown’s Boys star Jennifer Gibney as she became the second celebrity through the exit door.

Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: “We cannot tear Frankie and Jake apart, but Caroline is looking like the dark horse of the competition and it won’t be long before she’s seriously contesting for favouritism.”
