Tottenham v Southampton: Old faces and new to haunt Pochettino

Published:

Tottenham made a habit of getting beat after Europa League games last season, and fresh from a testing midweek assignment hosting Benfica, the Lilywhites may well struggle against a bang-in-form Southampton side.

Ladbrokes don’t share that viewpoint, pricing Spurs as 11/10 favourites, with the draw at 12/5, while the away win is out at 13/5.

We think Saints are a hot price to prevail and it’s victory for Ronald Koeman’s high flyers which heads our trio of best bets for the contest:

Southampton to win @ 13/5

The form book denotes this to be a royal price on the away win. Mauricio Pochettino’s old side sit second in the early Premier League table as they go in search of a fifth straight top-flight victory and a seventh in all competitions.

Meanwhile, Pochettino’s new club have gone right off the boil since their opening pair of league wins, picking up just two of the last 12 points available – which includes successive home losses.

Last season Spurs struggled with a Europa League Thursday followed by league fixtures on Sundays, losing six times immediately after continental action and a fully fresh and in-form Saints side can take full advantage.

Tottenham to score 0-1 goals @ 3/4

Southampton aren’t all about attacking flair, they own the meanest defence in the Premier League so far, shipping only four goals in six games.

Thrown into the mix that Spurs’ have now gone two home league games without scoring, then this bet looks a ripe
one.

Wincast: Graziano Pelle to score and Southampton to win @ 5/1

Saints new hero has started where he left off at Feyenoord, by finding the net for fun, scoring a special goal in the most recent win over QPR.

The Italian centre-forward has now notched four in his first six Premier League games and 54 in 63 league appearances taking in his last two seasons in Holland.
