ATP Tour Finals: Federer to play it straight and Murray magic

It’s all about the O2 in London this week with the ATP Tour’s biggest and brightest currently involved in the annual end-of-year tournament at the Greenwich-based venue.

With runaway favourite and world no.1 Novak Djokovic in action tomorrow, Tuesday’s picks focus on two men who have beaten the Serbian previously and will be looking to knock him off his perch all over again in the coming days.

Whether it’s all-time great Roger Federer or the all-round great Andy Murray, here are three top tips to enjoy alongside all the action on BBC Two and Sky Sports 3.

Roger Federer to beat Kei Nishikori 2-0 @ evens

Federer exorcised several demons by downing Milos Raonic – the man who beat him at the Paris Masters – 2-0 last time out in this competition.

Three of the Swiss legend’s last four victories have come in straight sets and after seeing off Nishkori 2-0 when the pair met in Halle back in June, we would be confident of the six-time ATP Tour Finals winner doing the same here.

Andy Murray to win the first set and the match against Milos Raonic @ 4/5

Despite a straight sets defeat to Nishikori, Murray will still be optimistic about his chances against Raonic, who surrendered the first set of his match against Federer in tame fashion with a 6-1 loss.

Murray took the first set in a 2-1 loss when these two met last in March of this year and despite a weaker head-to-head record, recent title wins in Shenzhen, Vienna and Valencia mean we are still confident of the Scot taking the first set and the match in an encounter he has to win.

Julien Benneteau/Edouard Roger Vasselin to beat Daniel Nestor/ Nenad Zimonjic @ 11/10

Veteran double stars Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic have been on a rotten run of form of late, losing each of their last four matches going into this encounter.

Julien Benneteau and Edouard Roger Vasselin will therefore be confident of upsetting the odds, particularly as the French pair beat their Serbian opponents in their previous meeting at the Cincinnati Masters, and should be backed to do so right here.
