X Factor: It’s all looking too straightforward for Andrea

Published:

Barring a bit of stagebombing ‘fun’ from Lee Nelson this weekend’s X Factor once again lived up to its reputation for going exactly to script.

Not that yours truly was impressed, having made a case for elimination joint-favourite, Paul Akister, to remain in the competition.

Based on his performance in Michael Jackson v Queen week, he should never have faced a sing-off but the public had their say when the outcome was skewed by ‘Deadlock King’, Louis Walsh.

Anyway, the fact remains that the bookies haven’t been wrong so far when it comes to eliminations, with each of the previous eight favourites to leave subsequently taking their cue to do so.

Only the Young are fancied to be the next act to go at odds of 2/1 but Jay James’ position in the bottom-two last weekend could be a sign of things to come.

The 31-year-old singer a value bet at 5/1 to be the ninth contestant eliminated.

And at the other end of the spectrum, can anyone see another act seriously challenging Andrea?

We can’t and it’s all getting a little too samey.

Our top three as it stands:

Andrea Faustini – 11/10 to win X Factor 2014

Yawn. But in a good way. Andrea pulled it out of the bag YET AGAIN with his take on Queen smash ‘Somebody to Love’.

Unless the producers have a huge plot twist up their sleeves there is nothing that can stop this guy.

You’d be crazy not to get on this price while there’s still a bit of value left.

Ben Haenow – 4/1

Coming-up on the rails, Ben is now a serious contender for the final two (Andrea/Ben is available at 2/1, by the way).

Having gone all acapella to kick-off his rendition of Man in the Mirror, Ben got top marks from the judges for being making such a bold statement.

Well, everyone apart from Mel B but who cares what ‘Old Spice’ says anyway?

Lauren Platt – 9/2

On the drift, 17-year-old Lauren hasn’t really done much wrong.

In fact, she even garnered the immortal line ‘you look like a popstar, you sing like a popstar’ from Louis

But given Ben’s more ‘mature’ appeal it’s looking like our Lauren could have to settle for the bronze medal.
